Who is the mastermind behind Breaking Rust? Maybe no one. However, “Walk My Walk”, the title of an unidentified artist, is the most downloaded country song in the United States, according to data published this Monday by the specialist magazine Billboard. Notes may be created with artificial intelligence.
On social media or streaming platforms, Breaking Rust or its creators do not claim to have used AI. But the fact that the voice is not associated with the name of any singer and that the illustrations, photos and clips were clearly created by artificial intelligence, makes the industry qualify Breaking Rust as an AI artist.
Several AI music identification software used by AFP all indicated, with between 60% and 90% probability, that “Walk My Walk” was indeed an artificial intelligence-generated song.
The credits of the song credit Aubierre Rivaldo Taylor as the writer, a name that appears as the only reference on the Internet to his association with the group Def Beats AI (defbeatsai), which is clearly identified as the AI project. Contacted by AFP on Tuesday, the creator of the Breaking Rust Instagram page did not immediately respond.
AI piece multiplication
If the AI origin of Breaking Rust is confirmed, it will be a new turning point for the emergence of this technology in the world of music. Since the emergence of new generative AI platforms dedicated to music, such as Suno or Udio, songs created entirely with artificial intelligence have proliferated on streaming platforms.
In July, project designer Velvet Sundown confirmed that the group with a vintage rock sound was indeed the product of AI, after one of its songs was streamed more than a million times.
In September, AI singer Xania Monet became the first virtual artist to debut on the US bestseller chart. A small record company, Hallwood Media, signed Xania Monet to its label, for a sum estimated at three million dollars by some American media.
