War in Ukraine: Russian airstrikes on the third night in a row leave 32 people injured in Kharkiv

A Russian drone strike left at least 32 people injured in Kharkiv, the governor of the region of the same name in eastern Ukraine announced this Wednesday morning, the target of such attacks for the third night in a row. Over the previous two nights, Russian missile attacks had killed at least four people in the region, including a 17-year-old girl.

Governor Oleg Synegoubov reported a “massive attack on Kharkiv” carried out by at least “11 enemy drones”, in which “a nine-story building was hit and then burned”, according to several consecutive publications on the Telegram social network. “The number of injured people in Kharkiv is currently 32,” he wrote on Wednesday morning.

Shortly before midnight, the mayor of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov, announced that his city near the Russian border, the country’s second most populous city before the invasion launched by Moscow in February 2022, had been the target of an “enemy drone attack”, and several explosions had been heard.

Russia targets its country almost every day using drones or missiles. Energy infrastructure has been a major target, raising fears of a severe winter in Ukraine. Kyiv, for its part, regularly targets oil depots and refineries and other installations on the Russian side.

On the front lines, the Russian army continued its advance, particularly in the Kharkiv region, where on Monday they claimed to have captured a new village, Dvorichanské. In September, the Russian army said it hoped to “develop a deep offensive in the region”.

Moscow continues to demand Kyiv’s recognition of the territorial surrender as a precondition for a ceasefire, a de facto surrender that Ukraine considers unacceptable.
