Ukraine is still facing one of the most serious corruption scandals in its history. While two ministers have left their posts and a close friend of Volodymyr Zelensky’s assets have been frozen, another leader may soon emerge as hearings with the national anti-corruption body continue.
As the Kyiv Independent reports, Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) are now interested in the “shocking connection” between the case and Fire Point, Ukraine’s leading missile and drone manufacturer.
Fire Point has been the target of an investigation
In the trial held on Thursday this week, the name of the company, which has been known since the summer of 2023 for its support on the front lines, was mentioned in several audio recordings, even though the corruption case was related to the energy sector.
Ihor Fursenko, one of the key people in the system that enabled the embezzlement of $100 million in bribes, has actually been an employee of Fire Point since March 2025. An activity that allowed him to develop a system of corruption in particular by traveling outside Ukraine.
In recordings revealed during the trial, Fursenko can be heard congratulating himself on having obtained his “badge” at Fire Point from Oleksandr Tsukerman, another businessman involved in this affair who was none other than his superior in the criminal organization’s hierarchy. The heart of the discussion was Tsukerman telling the details of his contract and how the company could pay taxes on it.
The exact role of the Fire Point company remains to be clarified in this matter. The company, now known worldwide for its Flamingo missile and 1,100kg warhead that Volodymyr Zelensky described as “very powerful”, was the subject of a corruption investigation last August.
