The last of the sun, the warm temperatures of late summer that sometimes exceed 20 degrees, t-shirt weather: It’s over now. “Golden autumn” will say goodbye this weekend – and the weather will be wet and gray next week at the latest. According to estimates German Weather Service (DWD) the weather could get very cold early next week, at least at higher elevations – with snowfall of around 1,000 meters.
DWD said temperatures have been very mild in recent days. However, there is no temperature record. The highest November value ever measured in Bavaria was 25.9 in Rosenheim in 1997, as explained by DWD meteorologist Florian Bauer. In Bad Kohlgrub, Upper Bavaria, the temperature was measured today at 21.6 degrees; According to Bauer, this can roughly represent the maximum value on that day. In Oberstdorf in Swabia the temperature was 20.9 degrees.
Hair dryers provide late fall warmth
Foehn caused warm weather in some regions on the edge of the Alps, Bauer said. For comparison: In Munich the temperature is 19.2 degrees, in Nuremberg only 12 degrees. However, this is still far from the summer value – according to meteorologists’ definition of 25 degrees. It remains to be seen whether the reading of around 24 degrees at Halblech in the Ostallgäu district is actually confirmed. Daily values are always subject to quality control and may have to be adjusted later.
Winter is coming
Now a cold wave is approaching. At the start of the week it’s time to put on your raincoat and jacket. On Saturday there may still be a mix of sun and clouds. On Sunday there will be a few showers in the morning, then sun and clouds for the rest of the day. But then it became cloudy and grey, in some areas there was fog or thick fog – and rain. DWD estimates a maximum temperature of seven degrees. In the mountains: snow.
