The Latin Grammy 2025 has come to an end, but so much happens in each edition that one could comment on it for several days. If previous years had been dominated by superstars such as Karol G, Shakira and Peso Pluma, it is clear that 2025 was the year of Bad Bunny and Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso, awarded in Las Vegas on November 13 with five golden gramophones each.
Other big names at the ceremony who came to collect one of the long-awaited awards were Alejandro Sanz, Karol G, Gloria Estefan and Aitana. However, there were absences at the ceremony that have been echoed since the list of nominations was released. Last September the list of candidates was presented and they were different snub which surprised more than one, so it wasn’t strange not to see them at the ceremony. It is normal that if an artist is not nominated or does not perform, he does not participate.
Who was missing from the last edition of the Latin Grammys?
The eligibility period for the 2025 Latin Grammys was from June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025 (which is why no songs by Tropicochaete by Karol G was nominated in this edition, for example). However, several works from that period were not selected by the Academy. Or the artist teams didn’t submit them for consideration.
For starters, the absence of Cazzu, who released one of the most powerful studio works of the year, is surprising: Latinizationin April 2025. An album in which we perceive a great evolution in the style of the Argentine artist, exploring various genres of Latin American popular culture (bachata, chacarera, Mexican corrido, tango, cumbia, bolero, salsa), distancing herself from her characteristic style between trap and reggaeton. The video clip of your song With Another—a subtle nod to her relationship with Christian Nodal, nominated and awarded in this edition— is the video with the most views on YouTube by a female artist in the last year, even surpassing Lady Gaga.
In general, the absence of many Argentine artists from the nomination list and, consequently, from the ceremony is surprising. We haven’t seen big names like Lali Espósito (after launching his spectacular and high-profile show Don’t go and answer when the devil calls), María Becerra, Tini or Emilia Mernes. Nicki Nicole and Yami Safdie each received a mention and were in attendance in Las Vegas, albeit without an award.
In the field of Mexican music, Peso Pluma did not appear. The lack of nominations for Fuerza Régida attracts even more attention, despite its album 111XPANTIA was listed as one of the best latin jobs of 2025 by Advertising billboard. However, the band was present at the ceremony thanks to a joint nomination with Grupo Frontera for the song I pull myself.
Completely absent also in this edition is the young Xavi, one of the most powerful voices in Mexican music, despite the good reception of his album NEXT. Nor were there any traces of Belinda and Netón Vega, the latter one of the names most present in the graphs in the United States in the last year.
J Balvin has released his long-awaited album Ray in August 2024, but he also received no recognition (although he was spotted in Las Vegas during awards week). The artist has maintained a critical stance towards the Grammys in recent years. Even in the field of Colombian music, Shakira was absent, despite having a nomination for best pop song Single woman. The singer was in Los Angeles for the premiere of Zootopia 2.
Other notable absences at the 2025 Latin Grammys were names like Feid, Bad Gyal, De La Rose, Omar Courtz or Becky G.
