“Who dries the sheets?” »: Lorànt Deutsch pokes fun at the already controversial artistic installation on Place Bellecour in Lyon

Contemporary art is often subject to interpretation. The ephemeral art installations in the city center are no exception, quite the opposite. After the giant “Kermitt”, Place Vendôme in Paris, here is the 2nd episode of the “clothesline hanging in Lyon” controversy at Place Bellecour.

“I was at the Place Bellecour where the Lyonnais decided to dry their sheets. I know that Lyon is the capital of sheets, textiles, Canuts, silk… But still doing that in front of Louis XIV (statues of rulers enthroned there), I don’t know… Something is burning! “, quipped the actor, who also loves history and heritage, who asked in the caption: “Who dries the sheets? »

This few seconds long video that he recorded himself has gone very viral on the Instagram social network. It was viewed more than 560,000 times in 24 hours.

The RTL presenter, in fact, poked fun at the Urban Weaving of Place Bellecour artwork that was installed this summer and has since generated controversy specifically because of its cost: the environmentally conscious city hall – much criticized by opposition elected officials who denounce the waste of public money – invested 1.5 million euros in the project. The installation, made of yellow-orange curtains (a reference to the canut loom), tied with metal cables attached to wooden arches, is currently being installed.

Jean-Michel Aulas took this opportunity to revive the controversy

“So no, the citizens of Lyonnais do not decide, but the city hall decides for them and believe me, a large number of Lyonnais and people from the suburbs of Lyon hate it and above all, it costs so much for nothing”, commented a customer Lorànt Deutsch, author of “Métronome” on his Instagram account. A rock in the city park of an environmentalist currently in a re-election race.

A boon for the opposition was realized by Jean-Michel Aulas. This brief “Insta post” was aptly delivered by the municipal candidate, who has never been shy about extending kindnesses aimed at his opponent for the March 2026 deadline, the outgoing environmental mayor, Grégory Doucet. “If only there was that,” quipped the former OL boss.
