World Cup Qualification: Italy missed out on direct qualification to the World Cup

Italy – Norway 1:4 (1:0)

On the last matchday of World Cup qualifying before the playoffs Italy Lost 4-1 to Norway. Therefore, Italy missed out on direct qualification to the World Cup. Norway has qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time since 1998.

The first goal of the match came in the eleventh minute: Francesco Pio Esposito scored for the Italian team to make it 1-0. Only in the second half, in the 63rd minute, Antonio Nusa managed to equalize Norway balance. Fifteen minutes later, Erling Haaland from the Norwegian national team was able to increase the score to 2-1. A minute later, Haaland scored another goal. Shortly before the final whistle sounded, in the 90+3 minute, Norway was again able to increase its lead through Jørgen Strand Larsen’s goal which made the final score 4-1.

As second place in the group, Italy now still has a chance to qualify for the playoffs. The twelve group runners-up from the European qualifiers will play for four more starting spots in the playoff tournament.
