World Group Playoffs: Thanks to Belgium: The tennis team has a chance to stay in its class

The Germans came out thanks to the support Belgium but still has a chance to stay in the Billie Jean King Cup world group. Since Belgium won the playoff tournament in Ismaning near Munich against Türkiye 2-1 after a hard-fought battle, the DTB team’s decisive duel against Belgium will now take place on Sunday. With clear success, relegation to the second division could certainly be avoided – despite a surprising 2-1 defeat in Friday’s first duel against Türkiye.

If the Bosphorus team also beats Belgium in their second meeting, Germany’s relegation will be resolved. Only the winner of this three-man playoff group can compete for the team’s most important trophy in 2026. Germany has competed in the highest level competition, previously called the Fed Cup, non-stop since 2014.

Belgium’s victory at the small facility of TC Ismaning was achieved by Hanne Vandewinkel against Zeynep Sonmez (6:4, 6:4) and the final doubles. Turkey’s Ayla Aksu won the first individual match against Sofia Costoulas (6:3, 6:1). Sunday’s game starts at 1 p.m.
