During a visit to Ankara on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wanted to revive diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine. According to information from Kiev, Ukraine primarily wants to involve America again in the search for a peace solution. Therefore, Zelensky will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US special envoy Steve Witkoff in Ankara. Russian representatives did not take part in the talks.
Diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful solution, also pushed by US President Donald Trump, have so far been unsuccessful. Delegations from Russia and Ukraine have met in Istanbul for three rounds of talks since May, during which prisoner swaps and the repatriation of slain soldiers were agreed. However, there was no progress towards a ceasefire at the meeting. Russia rejected the ceasefire and continued its attacks on Ukraine with undiminished severity.
